After winning both World Championship crowns in 2000, the Scuderia made every possible effort to defend its titles in 2001. The F2001 was an all-new machine designed to comply with new FIA safety regulations and incorporate all the lessons learned during the double title-winning season. |
The 47th Ferrari created to tackle the FIA F1 championship, the F2001 was distinguished from the earlier models by its lower nose, raised front wing and longer side pods. |
The newly developed Type 050 V10 engine produced highly competitive levels of power with remarkable reliability. With partners Shell, Ferrari conducted extensive research into materials, lubricants and reducing reciprocating masses and internal friction. As before the engine is a stressed member of the chassis, but for the F2001, the 7-speed gearbox was cased in pre-machined and welded titanium. |
With Michael Schumacher at the wheel, the F2001 stormed to a remarkable nine victories from the German ace's 15 race finishes, winning Michael the Drivers' title. Teammate Rubens Barrichello claimed podium positions 10 times, and scored points 13 times, to help the team to clinch another Constructors' crown. |
