Following the success of privately-entered 550 Maranellos in international GT racing, including the historic class win in the 2003 Le Mans 24 Hours, Ferrari has developed its own in-house evolution of the new 575M Maranello- the 575 GTC (C stands for Competizione). |
Designed to contest the FIA GT and Grand Am championships, the 575 GTC features an increase in engine capacity to 5,997 cc (up from the production car's 5,748cc), with a slightly longer stroke. Specific cam timing and Marelli engine management, together with the FIA regulation 31.8mm air-intake restrictors, result in a rise in maximum power to 600 bhp. When matched to the longest gearing of the optional final drives available, this gives a theoretical top speed of 208 mph (335 km/h). |
Both the front and rear track have been increased while the cars' dry weight has been drastically reduced to just above the FIA's minimum permitted weight of 1,150 kg (2,530 lbs). The weight loss is partly due to the use of a specially-developed tubular spaceframe chassis with composite body panels. |
Lengthy wind tunnel testing has gone into developing the 575 GTC's aerodynamics and the car sports a flat underbody with rear diffuser, an adjustable front spoiler, and a split rear wing with Gurney flap - all designed to deliver the best possible aerodynamic performance while complying with FIA and ACO regulations. |
